Featured Artists

Well, if you happened to watch the comments sections to some of my recent posts, you'll know that I just figured out a track after David played it last night and back announced it as by Rymes With Orange. I was able to find a copy today - old school - at the used CD store (it seems pretty scarce on-line). First, a little about the band - the primary members were: Lyndon Johnson - Vocals; Rob Lulic - Guitars and Bob D'Eith - Keyboards. I believe they were from the Vancouver area. They released at least a couple of albums in the early 90s: 'Peel' in 1992 and 'Trapped in the Machine' in 1994. I believe they had at least one other release, but I don't know anything about that one. As far as I can tell, over the last 15 or so years they have faded into relative obscurity as they don't seem to show up too much in a web search and aren't available for on-line purchase anywhere I looked.

The first track I'll feature is 'Home House Flower' which is the track David played last night and is from their 'Peel' album.

Rymes With Orange - Home House Flower

Next is another Rymes With Orange track that David also plays from time to time. This one is from their 'Trapped in the Machine' release and it's called 'Toy Train' - I'm guessing that this was their biggest hit, it's a pretty good track!

Rymes With Orange - Toy Train

Next up is a track from a band called 'Odds'. They were another one that I was able to find on my trip to the used CD store, but that was also eluding me in my searches of the web. This is another band that I believe was from the Vancouver area. Again, a bit about the band from the CD: the members were - Craig Northey - Vocals & Guitar; Doug Elliot - Bass & Vocals; Steven drake - Vocals, Gutiar, Piano & Organ and Paul Brennan - Drums & Piano. The track I'll feature is Heterosexual Man.

Odds - Heterosexual Man

Lastly, here's a video of a track that David played last night by Duane Eddy - Ghost Riders In The Sky:

Featured Artists

Here are a few tracks from tonight's show:

Next is a track by a band I've featured before - the Fabulous Poodles, this time with their track Mirror Star.

The Fabulous Poodles - Mirror Stars

Lastly is a great obscure track from the Spirit of Radio days: Rockaderos - I Wanna Dance Like Fred - obscure enough, that it took a while to track down some cover art!

One thing that blew me away about this list is that the top artist from the prior list doesn't have a single track that shows up in this list. That should give you an idea of how broadly David digs out of the Floyd catologue for amazing tracks to play (and how amazing so much of the Floyd back catologue is as well!)

Top Artists

Well, I passed over 5,000 tracks logged so far in this project, so I decided it was time to make a couple preliminary 'Marsden' lists - one of the top artists he plays most often and one of the top individual tracks played most often. I'm thinking that I'll probably start to do updates to these lists twice a year - each July 1 and Jan 1. It will be interesting to see how things develop over more time.

First up is the list of top artists by number of times played:

1. Pink Floyd
2. SLAVE to the SQUAREwave
3. Frank Zappa
4. Japan
5. Dee Long
6. The Stranglers
7. The Clash
8. The Tubes
9. Blue Peter
10. Klaatu
11. T.Rex
12. Scissor Sisters
13. David Bowie
14. Iggy Pop
15. Pukka Orchestra
16. Rough Trade
17. Simple Minds
18. The Cure
19. Roger Waters
20. The Kinks
21. The Comsat Angels
22. Ian Dury
23. Rammstein
24. The Box
25. The Grapes of Wrath

Pink Floyd, not surprisingly was a ways out in front, and that's not including any of the many Floyd covers that David also plays! Let me know what you think of the list!
